Or at least the idea is beginning to move forward.
The House will consider legislation that would cut off funds for the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs and imposes limits on the operations.
It’s about time. There’s still plenty of time for this effort to be derailed and for the public to again become apathetic, but it’s a start. And it’s thanks to one man.
Though there’s still reason to be pessmistic: “…one of the country’s top intelligence officials is publicly acknowledging that FISC has sanctioned a continuation of its powers.”
I have no idea how this will all play out. While many argue in favor of protections from bad guys (foreign or domestic, terrorist or street thug), we also need protections from police. This is a political problem and, as such, only politicians can solve it.
