More NSA revelations to come, evidently regarding an assassination program. Snowden’s concerns of being assassinated while in Hong Kong were, I suspect, grounded in fact.
NSA gathers social connections data of Americans and non-Americans alike. This includes both public and non-public data.
An agency spokeswoman, asked about the analyses of Americans’ data, said, “All data queries must include a foreign intelligence justification, period.”
That doesn’t always happen, of course, as NSA staff sometimes spy on former boyfriends/girlfriends. I’m not sure what other privacy violations, fraud, espionage, or other activity is actually facilitated by the NSA or other aspects of the surveillance state, but I think we as a society need to start asking these sorts of questions.
